Mary’s Alzheimer’s began approximately 8 yrs ago and she has become increasingly dependent on her husband for her care. As he began to take more and more time to get her bathed, dressed, and fed every day the house began to deteriorate until the clutter was totally out of control.

Our staff now assist several hours daily. First as a Personal Helper to help Mary’s husband John with his wife’s hands on care to get her ready for the day. By early afternoon the care drops down to the Home Maker Companion Level and becomes focused on keeping Mary supervised and comfortable so that John can begin to catch up on organizing the house. The caregivers also keep Mary safe while she continually roams about her home and encourages her to talk though the conversations she frequently has having nothing to do with reality. In the brief periods when Mary is napping, the staff also assist with vacuuming, cleaning the bathroom, and doing the laundry. Having his wife well supervised gives John both a physical and mental break so that he can re-fuel for the remaining hours of the day when he again is the lone caregiver.
